Project Overview
With rapid growth at Yakima Air Field and increasing demand for hangar space, the airport identified the need to expand and modernize its infrastructure. The solution was the design and construction of a new taxilane at the south end of the airport, providing direct access to 15 acres of prime airport property adjacent to the Armory.
Key Improvements and Features
The new taxilane is a transformative addition, offering seamless runway access and unlocking substantial potential for future hangar development. Key components of the project included:
-
Removal of two outdated hangars
-
Extensive safety area grading
-
Utility infrastructure improvements
-
Enhancements to the nearby road to strengthen the airport’s taxiway network
Impact and Future Growth
This project paves the way for expanded aircraft manufacturing operations, as well as private and corporate hangar development. By addressing current needs and enabling future opportunities, it sets the stage for Yakima Air Field’s long-term growth and increasing importance in the region.
