Project Overview
Utah State University (USU) has a research area north of the main campus known as the Innovation Campus. This area, spanning approximately four city blocks, includes multiple buildings and working research grain fields. A key feature of this area is an existing pond, nearly 50 years old, which required repairs, upgrades, replacement, or innovative design solutions due to age and increased stormwater runoff from upstream development.
Project Scope
A detailed study was conducted to:
-
Document the stormwater detention volume needed at the pond location
-
Develop schematic design options for the pond and surrounding areas
Design Features
The design included:
-
Improvements to the pond for both stormwater management and aesthetic value
-
A new sidewalk encircling the pond to enhance accessibility
-
Landscaping improvements to restore and blend the pond area with the existing surrounding landscape
This project supports USU’s goals of maintaining functional, sustainable, and visually appealing spaces within the Innovation Campus while addressing increased stormwater demands.
