Rainbow Bridge Bat Surveys – Valley Co., ID

Project Overview

To protect wildlife around the well-known Rainbow Bridge on SH-55 that crosses the Payette River during the upcoming bridge repair project, J-U-B’s Environmental Services Group (ESG) conducted pre-construction wildlife surveys.

Wildlife Surveys

ESG biologist Tyler Schade partnered with Idaho Fish & Game to survey the area for bats and nesting birds. The surveys were conducted in early March, coinciding with the end of bat hibernation and the beginning of bird nesting season.

Methodology

Bat surveys included scanning the bridge and surrounding area using binoculars and telephoto lenses, searching for signs such as guano, vocalizations, or direct sightings. Nesting bird surveys used similar techniques, observing for nesting behavior or visible nests.

Purpose

The primary goal of these surveys is to help the construction team avoid disturbing or harming sensitive species in the area, ensuring the project proceeds responsibly and in compliance with environmental protections.
