Project Overview
The Maybell Diversion Rehabilitation and Headgate Modernization project was designed as a multi-benefit initiative to support the Maybell Irrigation District and the broader Yampa River ecosystem in Colorado. The project goals included enabling remote monitoring and control of the Maybell headgate, increasing drought resilience, fostering collaboration among water users, enhancing boater safety during high flows, and restoring fish passage for the endangered Colorado Pikeminnow.
Environmental Services and Collaboration
J-U-B’s Environmental Services Group (ESG) played a critical role in the project’s success. Working in close coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), the ESG conducted comprehensive biological and water resource inventories. They also led the permitting process with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and ensured full NEPA compliance by coordinating with all involved federal agencies.
Client Impact
“I was pleasantly surprised by the knowledge of J-U-B’s Environmental Services Group. They were one step ahead in keeping the project on track with multiple governmental agencies and regulations, making sure we had what we needed before we needed it. Their work was instrumental to not only the construction portion of the project but the financial piece of the project, saving us time and money. With a strong work ethic, knowledge, and the ability to work with multiple teams they are above the rest!”
