Hankins Pump Station No. 2 – Twin Falls, ID

New Hankins Pump Station No. 2: Electrical and Control Systems Design

J-U-B’s Electrical Engineering Group provided electrical and control systems engineering design and is providing construction management services for the City’s new Hankins Pump Station No. 2 project. Working with J-U-B’s Water Resources Team, the project includes the construction of a new potable water booster pump station with six pump cans, each designed to accommodate 300HP pump systems. Initially, two 50HP and two 150HP vertical turbine canned pumps will be installed. The mechanical piping, valves, electrical system, instrumentation and controls, and HVAC system were all designed for the full six-pump buildout.

Key System Components and Project Scope

The project consists of:

  • ABB ultra-low harmonics variable frequency controllers for each pump motor, networked to a GE RX3I PLC for pressure control

  • 480V electrical distribution system with a 3,000-ampere service breaker, automatic transfer switch, and switchboard feeding all loads

  • Standby generator system designed for three parallel 800KW enclosed, weatherproof diesel generators (initially installing one)

  • Interior and exterior lighting and security systems

  • Integration into the City’s existing SCADA system with programming coordination

  • Factory acceptance testing

  • Coordination study and NFPA-70E arc flash study and labeling

  • Startup assistance, commissioning, and operator training
