Downtown and Neighborhood Master Plans
City of Orofino – Downtown Master Plan, Idaho
The City of Orofino requested assistance from J-U-B to develop a Downtown Master Plan to spur economic development and identify and prioritize projects for downtown improvements. J-U-B facilitated public involvement, including a downtown advisory committee, community open house, and online survey. Community members were engaged to identify locally supported projects to improve downtown Orofino. Downtown street and building conditions were thoroughly assessed and capital improvement, strategic funding, and implementation plans were developed. J-U-B created informative materials for use across online platforms and in print for distribution. The final master plan positioned Orofino for a successful Community Development Block Grant award of $500,000 in 2024.
City of Kuna – Downtown Revitalization, Idaho
The City of Kuna has been collaborating with J-U-B for over a decade on a variety of projects related to land use planning and funding, as well as transportation and park planning, design, and improvements. Following J-U-B’s engagement in an update to the Comprehensive Plan in 2018, J-U-B led a Downtown Revitalization Plan rooted in a community visioning process. The result was a successful Idaho Community Development Block Grant. J-U-B led the City through the process of winning the $500,000 needed to kick start design and construction. The success of the plan also led to an additional $800,000 from other state and local funding sources. J-U-B proceeded to develop a Main Street Streetscape Plan, Design and Construction (the top priority project identified in the Revitalization Plan). The successful completion of Phase I and II included new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, pavement, irrigation, planters, artwork, ADA ramps and bulb-outs. J-U-B also developed Downtown Design Standards to provide guidelines to downtown property owners, developers and business owners for streetscape improvements, façade upgrades and public/private gathering spaces.
Center Street Redesign, Logan, Utah
Logan City hired J-U-B to design improvements for Center Street from US-89/91 (Main Street) to 100 West including a new signal system at the intersection of Center Street and 100 West. The project consisted of complete roadway reconstruction from building face to building face, sidewalk widening, drainage and irrigation improvements, lighting improvements, signal design, design of gathering plazas, landscape beautifications, and site amenities. Work also included coordination with downtown businesses to discuss and mitigate project impacts, structural engineers for the design of an overhead archway, electrical engineers for enhanced lighting and electrical work, landscape architects for roadside planter boxes, pots, and other site amenities, utility companies for relocations, and UDOT for work at Main Street. The scope of work included roadway/storm drain/irrigation/intersection signal design, traffic modeling, utility design/coordination, public engagement, and coordination with the Utah Department of Transportation.
