Project Overview
Clearfield City has two main entrances from I-15 at 650 North and 700 South, serving as major gateways to the City. Over time, these interchanges became staging areas for numerous construction projects, resulting in long-standing aesthetic issues. Given their proximity to Hill Air Force Base, these interchanges are heavily used by commuters accessing both the base and Clearfield City. To address the ongoing use of these areas for staging and to enhance the city’s image, Clearfield City initiated a landscape improvements project at both interchanges to better reflect its values of patriotism, industry, and community.
J-U-B’s Role and Relationship
J-U-B’s landscape architects had previously completed successful streetscape projects and a parks and recreation master plan for Clearfield City, building a strong working relationship with City staff. Through consistent communication and a track record of delivering quality work, J-U-B was well-positioned to respond to the Clearfield Interchange Landscape Design Services RFP.
Winning Approach
The landscape architecture team developed a compelling proposal, identifying five key goals the City aimed to achieve and demonstrating a deep understanding of how to accomplish them. The team’s knowledge of UDOT procedures, coordination requirements, and strong client responsiveness set them apart. Despite proposing a fee more than double that of competitors, J-U-B was awarded the project due to their proven success, existing relationships, qualifications, and thorough grasp of the project’s objectives.
This project reinforces J-U-B’s commitment to delivering thoughtful, impactful design solutions that align with community identity and long-term city goals.
