Prairie Medical Campus Advances Healthcare Access in North Idaho
June 11, 2026

As North Idaho continues to experience population growth, access to quality healthcare has become increasingly important for residents. To help meet that need, the new Prairie Medical Campus is being developed, expanding healthcare services for residents throughout the Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls region.

Prairie Medical Campus is more than just a new healthcare facility. It is a long-term investment in the region’s health, economic vitality, and future growth. The campus will improve patient convenience by providing medical services closer to where people live and work while helping reduce pressure on existing healthcare infrastructure.

“This campus is going to be a gamechanger for the region,” said Kootenai Health CEO Jamie Smith.

“This campus represents our responsibility to plan ahead and serve our community; not after the need outpaces us, but now, when we can meet the need as it arises,” said Jameson Smith, CEO of Kootenai.

One J-U-B in Action

The Prairie Medical Campus project showcases J-U-B’s One J-U-B philosophy, bringing together expertise from multiple disciplines to deliver a seamless, integrated solution.

Land Development Group (LDG)

J-U-B’s Land Development Group is leading site design efforts, including grading, drainage, utility coordination, and overall development strategy. The team has focused on creating a site that supports the immediate needs of the medical campus while allowing flexibility for future expansion as the community grows.

“The Prairie Medical Campus highlights the strength of One J-U-B,” said J-U-B Project Engineer Cole Henderson. “In a fast-paced design-build environment, our teams stayed aligned and adaptable, working across disciplines and many offices to solve challenges in real time and keep the project moving forward.”

Transportation Services Group (TSG)

The Transportation Services Group has played a key role in evaluating site access, roadway improvements, and traffic operations to ensure patients, visitors, and emergency services can safely and efficiently access the campus.

“Coordinating traffic studies for private developments with public agency clients isn’t always straightforward, but this project is a great example of how trust and communication can turn that challenge into a success,” said J-U-B TSG Regional Lead Riannon Zender. “The client’s trust in J-U-B, built on our reputation for consistent, high-quality work, was key throughout the process.”

Surveying

J-U-B’s Surveying team provided accurate site data, boundary services, and construction staking necessary to support design development and construction activities. Their work established the foundation for successful coordination among all project partners.

Through early involvement and continuous communication, the teams worked collaboratively to align design decisions, minimize conflicts, and create efficiencies throughout the project lifecycle. This integrated approach streamlined communication with the client and reinforced a unified project delivery model.

Project Progress and Milestones

The Prairie Medical Campus project continues to advance on schedule, with a goal of welcoming its first patients by the end of 2027.

Key project milestones include:

  • March 2025: The hospital campus ownership team issued an official press release announcing the project and establishing the goal of serving its first patient by the end of 2027.
  • July 2025: The ownership team selected the project’s general contractor.
  • February-May 2026: The project achieved several important milestones, including plan approvals, mass grading activities, and completion of site civil and building plan development.
  • March 2026: Project partners celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony, officially marking the start of construction.
  • June 2026: Construction is progressing steadily, with building foundations being poured and site utility infrastructure being installed.

The project team continues to work closely with ownership, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain momentum and keep the project on track.

Investing in Community Health

As North Idaho continues to evolve, Prairie Medical Campus will play an important role in ensuring healthcare services grow alongside the community. By expanding access to modern medical care and planning proactively for future needs, the campus will help strengthen the region’s quality of life for future generations.

For J-U-B, the project also represents the power of collaboration. Through a One J-U-B approach, teams across disciplines and offices have come together to support a shared vision: delivering infrastructure that serves communities and improves lives.

Prairie Medical Campus is an investment in North Idaho’s future.
