J-U-B ENGINEERS, Inc. Recognizes Gonzaga’s Winning Senior Design Team

J-U-B ENGINEERS, Inc. is proud to celebrate the success of Gonzaga University’s Senior Design team, who secured first place in this year’s Civil Engineering Senior Design competition.

Each year, Gonzaga’s program brings together students from engineering, engineering management, and construction management to present capstone projects to peers, sponsors, and advisory board members. The event is managed by the Academic Director of the Center for Engineering Design & Entrepreneurship.

This year’s winning Civil Engineering team—Anders, Charlotte, and Aidan—was co-sponsored by Spokane Transit Authority (STA) and J-U-B. Their project, titled Wellesley Corridor Route 3 High Performance Transit Upgrade and Corridor Development Plan, stood out among competitors. Their work will inform future STA planning and implementation efforts.

Key Contributions from J-U-B and STA

J-U-B’s Stu Barton provided mentorship to the students, while both Stu and Jay Hassell contributed as a member of the Design Advisory Board. The project was sponsored by Ryan Brodwater, STA’s Capital Projects Manager, strengthening professional connections between J-U-B and STA.

An Exciting Victory

The first-place win was a proud and unexpected moment for the team, highlighting the value of collaboration between students and industry professionals. J-U-B is honored to have played a role in their achievement and looks forward to potential future projects with STA.

In addition to their victory, Gonzaga’s team placed second in the regional Concrete Canoe Competition in Portland. As a team sponsor, J-U-B was invited to speak to the ASCE student chapter. Jay Hassell and Shawna Conery shared insights on transitioning from student life to the professional world, offering career advice and real-world engineering perspectives.

These collaborations reflect J-U-B’s commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers and reinforcing relationships with academic institutions and public partners throughout the region.
