Celebrating Landscape Architecture Month
April 22, 2026

April is World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM2026). It’s a chance to highlight how landscape architects shape everyday spaces and the communities around them.

At J-U-B, we see this impact firsthand. The American Fork Boat Harbor project is one example of how our Landscape Architecture team brings this work to life.

Completed in June 2025, the American Fork Boat Harbor project highlights how J-U-B’s Landscape Architecture group adds value to infrastructure projects. What began as a parking lot improvement evolved into a public waterfront destination through collaboration with city partners, engineers, and the community.

The project received an ASLA Honor Award for General Design in October 2025.

How J-U-B Made the Difference

By expanding the project scope to include landscape architects, the design team helped transform the site into a more accessible and usable space:

  • Connected the harbor to regional trails with a multi-use path
  • Improved shoreline access with fishing areas, beaches, and seating
  • Designed spaces for everyday use and play, including a nature playground
  • Increased equitable access with free parking and better circulation

Designing with Purpose

J-U-B’s approach focused on practical, long-term solutions:

  • Removed invasive species and stabilized the shoreline
  • Introduced native, drought-tolerant plantings
  • Selected durable, low-maintenance materials

These decisions support both the health of Utah Lake and the long-term performance of the site.

Delivering More with Less

Working within a tight budget, the team prioritized elements that maximize impact by balancing function, maintenance, and user experience. The result is a space that serves the community while aligning with broader efforts to improve the perception and use of Utah Lake.

Why It Matters

The American Fork Boat Harbor project reflects what J-U-B does best: partnering with clients and communities to turn straightforward projects into lasting assets. It’s a strong example of how our landscape architects work collaboratively with engineers to create projects that are functional, thoughtful, and built to serve people over time.
